What makes a good portrait?

A lot of people ask me "what is the best way to make a great portrait?"

I believe that the big question is not the medium or camera used, but rather the amount of thought, creativity, and last but not least, the way you connect to your object. Remember! a camera is a camera. buying an expensive one will not buy you an artistic touch. put any expensive or cheap camera in a professional's hand, and he will see it as a tool to make great pictures!

The picture above is a self portrait of me taken with a Petzval 85mm lens. The lens itself does not take sharp pictures and is not easy to handle, but as a professional and experienced photographer, I capture great pictures while turning its disadvantages into advantages and making well thought-out portraits.
